Stranger in a Strange Land
Life Update. [this will be tl;dr if you aren’t related to me]

So, some things have been happening around here. I am still not working full-time, which is a bummer, but I’ve grown to love Austin so much recently that I am not at all miserable the way I was in the Fall. I’ve got actual friends outside of Jake and activities and such (that sounds so lame, but it makes me feel better). A few weeks ago we went to NYC for the Big East tournament (my fam are Pitt fans) and had an awesome time with Elisa and my family, but it poured the entire weekend. The following week was SXSW here in Austin, and while I didn’t get to attend any interactive events, on Fri. Jena and I went to a bunch of free shows.

[If you’ve never heard of SXSW, it’s basically a three-fold event for internet stuff, movies, and music. The music portion means that EVERY venue in Austin has some sort of live music act, even if it’s not an official SX event. So, basically 6th street and a few other areas shut down and you can walk around and listen to free music and get free drinks and food at places. Next year I will plan for this better, but it was fun to just wander and see what we could get into.]

Jake is preparing to take the FE [fundamentals of engineering] exam to someday become a certified professional engineer, so we are sticking close to home for Easter weekend. Hopefully, we’ll be able to get out and explore some other Texas areas after his exam is over and before it gets too hot down here.

Oh, and we’re moving in a few months, so we’re in the process of trying to find our next apartment. Hopefully, we can find someplace similar to our apartment now, but closer to the city and dog parks. I love the area we live in, but it’s kind of far from all of our friends and a pain to figure out what we’re doing when we go out to the bars [$30 cab ride home].

I think that’s it for now, but I’ll post more once we find our new digs. Happy Spring!
