Stranger in a Strange Land
Oh Christmas Tree.

So for my entire life (or at least the part I can remember) I have never been allowed to have a real Christmas tree. My dad has some thing against cutting down a tree grown for all those years just to put it in the living room to die after two weeks. Such a scrooge right? In college I don’t think we were allowed to put a real tree in our apartment and even if we could it was so tiny there’s no way we could have fit one. And in London I don’t think I ever saw a Christmas tree stand, but I’m sure they exist.

Now don’t get me wrong, fake trees can be just as beautiful as real ones- but they are just not the same. So this year I was probably way too excited to get a real tree and decorate it, and I made Jake humor me of course- by making it a whole event complete with red and green clothes and Christmas music. We went to the Elgin family Christmas tree farm (also where we got out pumpkins) about an hour away from where we live. Pretty much everyone there had children with them… We brought Easton.

After much debate and realizing that the Fraser firs that I had visions of do not actually grow in Texas and were shipped in and sitting in a barn for purchase, we went with an odd looking virginia pine (I think) and began chopping her down. Okay, Jake did all the chopping.

Okay I clearly didn’t need a fleece, but thought maybe if I wore it it would magically start snowing. Alas, it was 65 degrees and started to drizzle instead. Texas Christmas may take some getting used to. Anyway, back to our little beauty.

She’s a little sparse at the top, but we decided it gave her character.

(These next pics are for the moms so look away if you don’t want to gag.) Here’s Jake putting the ornament you gave us on the tree Ann!

And here’s the final product with Eastie dog, who thinks he’s a cat and tries to slither his way behind the tree every night, knocking off ornaments in the process.

Merry Christmas from us!
