Stranger in a Strange Land

Lucky, Blessed, Karma, Whatever.

So I feel nauseous writing this because it means that I have to look at the pictures again, but I wanted to mention what happened on Tues. night to those of you who don’t follow me on Twitter (@cam766). Jake was in a pretty bad car accident and Easton was in the car with him.

They both made it out okay, but Easton did require a vet visit for a leg he was limping on. Lots of money and x-rays later, he is fine with just some bruising. Jake has some bad scratches and sore muscles, but that was it.

I can’t go into the details of whose fault it was, etc. because the insurance companies are still investigating, but I can say that Jake was coming home after taking Easton to the dog park. He was turning left into our apartment complex and waiting at light to do so. When he turned he got slammed by another car and spun around hitting the retaining wall of the complex.

I had already told some people that we had been talking about getting a truck soon, but would probably wait until fall. Call it karma, but now that Jake’s car is totaled that truck may be coming a lot sooner.

When Jake took Easton to the dog park, he jumped in the water and got wet, making Jake put him in the backseat for the ride home. Any other night he would have been up front.

The Thursday before this happened I found out that I didn’t start my new internship until the 17th and found a cheap flight home for a few days. So, on a whim I booked a trip to Pittsburgh and was there when Jake called me to tell me he’d been in an accident. I know you should never play “what if,” but looking at the pictures of the car immediately made me think that any other day, I would have been in that front seat. Of course, who knows how it would have happened if any one thing had gone differently, but this is one of those times that makes me question fate.

Jake has now been in two very serious car accidents and only walked away with scratches (the first was after his freshman year of college when he fell asleep at the wheel.) I don’t want to talk about religion or faith, but I do believe he is blessed.

Anyway, I’m sure you know how scary it was to hear that this happened, and how incredibly happy I am that everyone (including the other driver) was okay, but of course dealing with everything and having to buy a new car is not that fun.

Here are some pictures of the “Green Beast” that is no more. Thank God we are so lucky.

(p.s. I’ll keep you updated on the car buying situation, but did you ever think you’d see me in a pickup truck! I have clearly had too much Texas kool-aid!)
